Brookfield Hotel Overview

Set in a landscaped garden close to the West Sussex border, Brookfield Hotel lies in the pretty town of Emsworth, in Hampshire, tucked away on the shore of Chichester Harbour.

A few miles from the A3 and M27 motorways, and just over 20 miles from Southampton Airport, Brookfield Hotel, near Havant, is both a coastal retreat and well-connected hub. Minutes from Chichester and the maritime city of Portsmouth, the hotel provides an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area. Loved by naturalists and walkers, Emsworth, near Havant, was once famous for oyster fishing, where in the second half of the nineteenth century almost five million oysters a year were caught in its harbour. Today you can follow the oyster trail in a walk that starts from the delightful Emsworth Museum, which also holds collections of the works of P. G. Woodhouse and Sir Peter Blake who lived in Emsworth.

Created from two large Victorian properties, Brookfield Hotel, near Havant, offers its guests spacious en suite bedrooms, including free Wi-Fi internet access, flat screen TV, trouser press and hospitality tray. The executive double rooms have iPod docking stations, bathrobes and other extras.

The hotel's popular Hermitage Restaurant, with its intimate alcoves, overlooks the garden and rockery. Enjoy modern British cuisine or weekly international specials in a relaxed, casual atmosphere, with fresh flowers and crisp linen. The Hermitage lounge bar with open fireplace provides a comfortable environment in which to enjoy afternoon tea. In the summer months, Brookfield Hotel's landscaped gardens offer an attractive alternative, where guests can savour a quiet drink.

Guests staying at Brookfield Hotel, near Havant, receive a complimentary leisure pass to the Powerhouse Health Club, which has a gymnasium, exercise classes and more.

With its proximity to Havant, Chichester and Portsmouth, the Brookfield Hotel is ideally placed for meetings and events. Its four meeting rooms seat up to 120 delegates in a theatre-style layout. Free on-site parking with CCTV is available for guests of the hotel.

Once home to the famous Emsworth Food Festival, there are now four smaller Emsworth Sunday Markets organised throughout the year. In Emsworth, traditional local boutique shops are encouraged to flourish. During the summer months, Chichester Harbour solar powered boat navigates the harbour from one of two tidal millponds, home to variety of wildlife. Why not set sail from Emsworth harbour on your own voyage in the last survivor of J. D. Foster's famous Victorian oyster fleet, 'Terror'?

Home of the Royal Navy since Henry VIII, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is a celebrated theme park in Britain. It houses HMS Victory and HMS Warrior. The Royal Navy Museum sits alongside these world-famous warships of the past, with boat trips around the harbour. The bus stop outside the Brookfield Hotel takes you through Havant and on to the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth. (Mary Rose, the Tudor navy's flagship, is currently withdrawn from public viewing to be re-housed in a brand new boat-shaped museum from 2012).

Many other fascinating cathedrals and museums, including Charles Dickens' Birthplace Museum, are also nearby. For the 'shop-a-holic', Gunwharf Quays, at Portsmouth Harbour, provides over 90 designer outlets, 30 bars and restaurants, cinema, nightclubs and more. The beautiful cathedral city of Chichester, with its medieval city walls, is also within easy reach and boasts the nationally renowned Pallant House Gallery.
