A part of the Dartington Hall Trust, this glorious South Devonshire retreat, near the ancient market town of Totnes - once named "capital of new age chic" by Time magazine - is set in a 1,200-acre estate of rolling farmland and a deer park with Bronze Age walls; Dartmoor National Park, Buckfast Abbey and the South Devon Railway are all at its doorstep.

Beautifully decorated bedrooms are arranged around the magnificent medieval courtyard and effortlessly fuse heritage with comfort. Dine in the White Hart Bar, with its roughcast walls and crackling log fire, where fresh local produce is used to prepare mouth-watering meals; grab a coffee at the Roundhouse Café; go to the pictures at the 14th Century Barn Cinema, offering an eclectic programme of films; or take a stroll along the river Dart, through 22 acres of Grade II* listed gardens, with spectacular woodland walks, awash with cherry blossom and snakes head fritillaries in spring. How to find us

By Road

From Exeter: the M5 becomes the A38. The road then divides, left to Torbay or straight on to Plymouth. Take the Plymouth (A38) road. After passing the two slip roads to Ashburton take the next exit, signed to Totnes, Dartmouth and Kingsbridge. Turn left onto the A384 and follow signs to Totnes. After approximately 4 miles, you will enter the village of Dartington. Shortly after the village sign, turn left at Dartington Church and follow this road for 1 mile. The main car park is on the left, below the overspill car park. The entrance to the courtyard is directly opposite the main car park.

From Plymouth: take the A38 up to the A385 turning, signposted Dartington. After approximately 3.5 miles you reach the mini-roundabout in Dartington village. Bear left towards Buckfastleigh and after 400 meters turn right at the church. Follow this road for 1 mile. The main car park is on the left, below the overspill car park. The entrance to the courtyard is directly opposite the main car park.
