The Hare and Hounds Hotel at Westonbirt near Bath, just outside the charming market town of Tetbury, is a highly rated 4-star traditional English country house hotel in the Cotswolds. Built in mellow Cotswold stone, the Hare and Hounds is set in its own manicured gardens and woodland, adjacent to the renowned Westonbirt National Arboretum. Highgrove House is just a mile away from the Hare and Hounds Hotel and the historic market town of Tetbury is only two miles away.

The newly refurbished bedrooms at the Hare and Hounds Hotel are situated in the original Cotswold country house and the adjoining buildings, including the Silkwood Court comprising of contemporary, superior quality rooms and luxury suites. All bedrooms are en suite and feature, amongst other things, satellite TV and complimentary Wi-Fi internet access. Many of the bedrooms take in views over the expanse of attractive gardens and woodland that surround the Hare and Hounds. Guests also have the use of all-weather tennis courts at the hotel.

The Hare and Hounds' fine dining Beaufort Restaurant serves delicious English and continental-style award-winning cuisine, with the emphasis on fresh local produce. The restaurant has period features including a hammer-beamed ceiling and bay windows that look out onto attractive gardens. The Hare and Hounds also features Jack Hare's, its own traditional English country pub. At Jack Hare's log fires crackle, real ales flow and tasty meals are served throughout the day.

The Hare and Hounds Hotel, Westonbirt, has a dedicated conference suite with five meeting rooms. The largest meeting room is the Westonbirt, which seats up to 150 delegates in a theatre-style layout, or 120 people seated for a banquet. The Westonbirt National Arboretum is adjacent to the Hare and Hounds Hotel and has one of the finest tree gardens in the world, with over 3,000 species, nature trails and seasonal displays spread over some 600 acres of Cotswold countryside. His royal highness the Prince of Wales' Highgrove House residence, with its impressive gardens, is just a mile away (tours by appointment only), and the nearby town of Tetbury - world-famous for its antique shops and specialist outlets - is well worth exploring. Westonbirt House and Malmesbury Abbey, along with a number of magnificent stately homes, manor gardens, market towns and villages, and Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, are also situated in the Southern Cotswolds.

Bedroom Accommodation

The Hare and Hounds Hotel has 45 bedrooms located in the main house and the adjoining buildings that comprise the hotel - the Coach House, the Garden Cottage, The Forge and Silkwood Court.

All bedrooms are en suite and feature satellite TV, direct dial telephone, complimentary Wi-Fi internet access, keycard access, smoke alarms, radio, tea/coffee making facilities, iron/ironing board, temperature controls and a hairdryer. Some rooms also have a trouser press and electric shaver point.

The Superior Rooms and luxury Suites in the recently built Silkwood Court are of a very high standard and are contemporary in design. These rooms are all air-conditioned and feature LCD televisions. Some of the Silkwood Court rooms have their own garden terrace. All bedrooms at the Hare and Hounds Hotel are non-smoking.

Hotel Heritage & History

The original Hare and Hounds Hotel dates from the early part of the 18th century and was initially a farmhouse. The main hotel building was added in 1928 and maintains the style of the former inn.

The world famous Westonbirt Arboretum sits adjacent to the hotel. The first trees in Westonbirt Arboretum were planted in 1829 and it was continuously developed by its owners, the Holford family, until its acquisition in 1956 by the Forestry Commission. This magnificent collection of trees is now open to the public every day of the year and merits a visit at any time.

Next door to The Hare and Hounds is the Beaufort Polo Club. Though in it's present form only nineteen years old, it is really a revival of a hunt polo club, which must have been one of the first if not the first, of the country polo clubs.

How to find us

By Road

From the M5:
Exit the M5 at Junction 13 and follow the signs for Stroud. Pick up the A46 for Tetbury and Westonbirt and follow the signs for the National Arboretum. The Hare and Hounds Hotel is next to the Arboretum.

From the M4 (Junction 17):
Exit the M4 at Junction 17, pick up the A429 and follow it through Malmesbury, heading for Cirencester and Tetbury. Turn left onto the B4014, signposted Tetbury. When you reach Tetbury take the first exit at the roundabout onto the A433, signposted Bath. The Hare and Hounds Hotel is two miles along this road on the right hand side, next to the Arboretum.

From the M4 (Junction 18):
Exit the M4 at Junction 18 and take the A46 to Tomarton, then follow the signs for Tetbury and the National Arboretum. The hotel is next to the Arboretum.
