Harpenden House Hotel Overview

Harpenden House Hotel is a beautiful Grade II listed Georgian town house. The hotel has a rich history and is the best hotel - and only 4-star hotel - in Harpenden, a bustling country Market Town with a multitude of boutique shops. It is ideally placed for visiting Luton, St Albans, Hemel Hempstead and Welwyn Garden City from the M1, M25 and A1 motorways. Luton Airport is only 6 miles away and just 10 minutes by train from Harpenden Railway Station, which is less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel.

The hotel is located in the heart of Harpenden, opposite Harpenden common, with free parking and free WiFi for guests throughout the hotel and public areas. The majority of bedrooms and meeting rooms are adjacent to the Main house in the Garden and Hertfordshire Wings. The Garden Wing houses two apartments and the luxurious large Executive rooms with garden views, kingsize beds and separate bath and shower. The Hertfordshire Wing and Main House have superior rooms, and those in the main house are air-conditioned. All bedrooms are furnished in a contemporary but warm style.

The WinePress restaurant features a renaissance style ceiling with stylish soft furnishings and offers a chic yet informal dining experience. There is also semi-private dining in the two charming alcove tables within the WinePress. The menu at the WinePress at Harpenden House Hotel is overseen by Daniel Galmiche, a Michelin starred chef, who worked in conjunction with the head chef at the hotel to create inspired, delicious unstuffy food, served in a relaxed atmosphere. Wine features heavily and there are 40 wines available by the glass, which have been handpicked.

Unwind and take in the atmosphere of the Welcombe lounge, serving traditional afternoon tea. Many of the original period features remain, including a large 18th Century fireplace in the lounge.

For the more energetic, there is free access and use of Harpers Leisure Centre, pool and gym situated just across the road; and also several golf courses in the area.

The hotel is close to a wide range of attractions, such as historical Hatfield House & Knebworth House, Royal National Rose Garden, Hertfordshire Show Ground, Luton Hoo Estate and Whipsnade Wild Animal Park, home to over 2,500 animals and one of Europe's largest wildlife conservation parks.

There are seven stylish and versatile conference rooms at Harpenden House Hotel, all with natural daylight that can accommodate up to 150 people. London Kings Cross St Pancras is just 25 minutes away on the mainline train from Harpenden, which is ideal for London sightseeing and access to Eurostar services.

Bedroom Accommodation

Harpenden House Hotel offers 76 bedrooms, all furnished in a contemporary, warm style. The majority of bedrooms are located in the Garden and Hertfordshire Wings, adjacent to the Main house. Those rooms in the Main House retain all the charm and character of the original Grade II listed building. All rooms feature tea and coffee making facilities, express check-out, hairdryer, free wireless internet access (WiFi), international direct dial telephone, iron and ironing board, key card access, razor electrical socket, in-room safe, smoke alarms and television. All rooms are non-smoking.

Standard Single - located in the Main House, these rooms are air-conditioned. Some rooms feature a shower only and others feature a bath/shower combination.
Standard Double - located in the Main House, these rooms are air-conditioned. Small double rooms with a standard size 4ft 6" bed.
Superior Double/Twin - larger rooms split between the Main House and the Hertfordshire Wing. Those Superior rooms in the Main House feature air-conditioning and some feature Four Poster beds. Superior Rooms in the Hertfordshire Wing are more modern in style and can be converted into Twins.
Executive Double/Twin - located in the Garden Wing, all rooms are large with garden views and feature King size beds. En-suite bathrooms feature separate bath and walk-in shower.
Apartment - located in the Garden Wing, each apartment features two bedrooms - a double and a twin; kitchen, bathroom and lounge area.

How to find us

By Road

From London Luton Airport - From Luton Airport head towards the M1 motorway, take the A1081 to Harpenden and drive through the town centre. At the end of the High street, go straight over the roundabout, then left at the next mini roundabout onto Bull Road. The hotel is situated 200 yards along this road on the left hand side, set back from the road.

From the M1 Motorway (from the North) - From the North, exit the M1 motorway at Junction 10 and follow the A1081 to Harpenden and drive through the town centre. At the end of the High street, go straight over the roundabout, then left at the next mini roundabout onto Bull Road. The hotel is situated 200 yards along this road on the left hand side, set back from the road.

From the M1 Motorway (from the South) - From the South, exit the M1 motorway and Junction 9. Take the third exit off the slip road and follow the A5183 signs for Harpenden (approx 2 miles). Take first exit at roundabout - B487 to Harpenden (approx 2 miles). Take the first exit onto the A1081 into Harpenden. At the next roundabout, take the third exit. Harpenden House Hotel is 200 yards on your left.
