Lancaster House Hotel was a green field site build and was opened on the 12th June 1991. Princess Alexandra performed the official opening ceremony on 4th December 1991.
In 2001 Lancaster House celebrated its 10th anniversary with a special dinner attended by Princess Alexandra who as Chancellor of Lancaster University had opened the hotel 10 years previously.
In 2004 Lancaster House announced plans to expand, with 19 additional bedrooms, new conference and function facilities, and extensive improvements to the hotels leisure facilities and beauty salon.
In May 2005 Lancaster House completed a £3.2 million extension and re-development programme consisting of a new conference and banqueting suite, almost doubling the hotels capacity, 19 new luxury bedroom suites, plus expansions to the Sandpiper Leisure Club and Sandeman's Bar.

From M6 Motorway (Heading North) - Come off the M6 motorway at junction 33. Take the A6 north towards Lancaster City Centre. Go straight through the traffic lights in the small village called Galgate. Once through Galgate you will come to another set of traffic lights. Go straight on and you will see Lancaster House Hotel on the hill to the right. Turn right at the turning before the next set of traffic lights. Follow the road up. The entrance to the hotel is on the right hand side on the brow of the hill.
