Local Attractions

The Lake District is a truly magical region. Its combination of soaring mountains, beautiful lakes and magnificent unspoilt scenery is breathtaking at any time of the year. It also offers something for everyone: superb walking, climbing and cycling; a host of water based activities; bustling rural towns full of character; houses of historic and cultural interest; and stunning views at every turn. It is hardly surprising that writers and poets such as John Ruskin, Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter chose to make the inspirational Lake District their home. The Lakes also offers great choice of visitor attractions ranging from Windermere Steamboat Museum which houses a unique collection of the lake's nautical heritage, to attractions which all the family will love such as Aquarium of the Lakes at Newby Bridge and Cars of the Stars in Keswick.

The Langdale Hotel & Spa is just outside Ambleside, one of the jewels of the Lakes, set in the centre of the Lake District at the head of Lake Windermere. Blessed with beautiful scenery, this bustling market town provides everything a visitor could want - from the numerous shops offering wares for walkers and climbers to the many eating and drinking establishments.

Buildings such as the 17th-century Bridge House, one of the smallest houses in Britain, and the Ambleside Museum (home to many Beatrix Potter artefacts) offer visitors an interesting insight into local life. Nearby Stock Ghyll Force, a beautiful waterfall, provides another stunning natural attraction.
