Maids Head Hotel Overview

The Maids Head is a 4-star deluxe hotel in Norwich city centre, opposite the famous Norman Cathedral and just around the corner from Norwich Castle. With its central location, the Maids Head Hotel is a great base for a walking tour of the historic city of Norwich with its boutique shops and attractions. There is free parking for up to 80 cars in the hotel car park. Norwich railway station is just a mile and Norwich airport is three and a half miles away.

The Maids Head Hotel is steeped in history and dates back to the 13th century, originally owned by the early Bishops in the day of William the Conqueror. The Maids Head Hotel offers Suites, Four Poster rooms, Feature Rooms, Executive and Standard rooms, as well as rooms ideal for family stays. There are contemporary rooms and traditionally decorated bedrooms with individual charm and character. The bedrooms are furnished in a warm welcoming style and offer a comfortable and well-equipped retreat at the end of the day. There is free WiFi access in the hotel.

The character rooms are not only beautifully decorated but have been host to influential characters such as Queen Elizabeth I, The Black Prince, Catherine of Aragon, and are visited by popular present day celebrities and musicians.

The Queen Elizabeth Suite is rumoured to have been Queen Elizabeth I bedroom when she visited the city in 1587. The Cathedral Suite with views of Norwich Cathedral has a separate lounge complete with dining area. The Ranworth Suite has a luxurious king size contemporary four-poster bed. The Paston Suite has an oriental antique carved four-poster bed, with a relaxing seating area overlooking the Tombland area of the city.

The WinePress @ Wensum at the Maids Head, like the rest of the hotel, exudes historical charm and offers an informal dining experience. The menu at the WinePress @ Wensum is overseen by Daniel Galmiche, a Michelin starred chef, who worked in conjunction with the head chef at the hotel to create inspired, delicious unstuffy food, served in a relaxed atmosphere. Wine features heavily and there are 40 wines available by the glass, which have been handpicked.

Adjoining the restaurant is the Maids Head Bar, Norwich's oldest serving bar. Sample fine wines, local beer and light meals in this cosy snug Jacobean bar that exudes character. For something more contemporary, there is The Yard Bar, offering a Norfolk Tapas bar menu, quirky cocktails and fine wines. Light meals or afternoon tea can be enjoyed in the lounge.

There are 6 well-equipped air-conditioned meeting rooms with a maximum capacity of 180 delegates. Themed private dinners in this historical venue can also be arranged.

The city of Norwich skyline is highlighted by two cathedrals, a Norman castle, medieval churches, the grandeur of Victorian architecture, an Art Deco City Hall and the 21st century landmark - The Forum.

The hotel is also a perfect base to explore the many attractions in the surrounding area including the Norfolk Broads, a network of rivers and open water for boating, outstanding scenery and spectacular wildlife. Nearby is Sandringham, the country retreat of Her Majesty the Queen, the most famous stately home in Norfolk - and certainly one of the most beautiful.

The Ranworth Suite

A spacious bedroom with a luxurious king size contempory four-poster bed. A feature fireplace and exposed beams add to the character and individuality of this room. There is a comfortable sofa area and a large desk in the bedroom.

Queen Elizabeth Suite

Rumoured to have been the bedroom of Queen Elizabeth I when she visited the city in 1587. The room is located in the original part of the hotel and has solid exposed beams throughout the lounge and bedroom. An original, feature headboard and 16th Century furniture add to the character of this room. Please note, tall guests may find the beams in this room a challenge.

Cathedral Suite

The Cathedral Suite not only has a separate lounge area but a dining area as well, both flooded with natural daylight from four original sash windows. A feature fireplace in the lounge and exposed beams throughout the Lounge and Bedroom add to the character and individuality of this room. A large desk in the bedroom allows you to work comfortably.

How to find us

By Road

From Norwich Airport - Leave Airport complex, turn left at traffic lights onto A140 towards city centre. Continue for approx 1.5 to 2 miles until you reach a roundabout, take the first exit. On fly over move into right hand land. At roundabout take the third exit, follow road for half a mile. When you reach a small roundabout the hotel is on your right hand aide with a pick up and drop off point at the main reception doors.

From A11 (at the A47 Junction) - Follow A11 take the third exit toward the City Centre, follow A11 at roundabout take second exit, continue along A11 at roundabout take second exit, continue along A11, at roundabout take first exit, at the next 3 roundabouts take the second exit. On fly over move into right hand land. At roundabout take the third exit, follow road for half a mile. When you reach a small roundabout the hotel is on your right hand aide with a pick up and drop off point at the main reception doors.

From Great Yamouth (A47) - Leave A47 at A146 Junction, Turn right at Traffic lights toward town centre, at lights go straight over and move into right hand lane., follow the road for approx &frac; mile. At traffic lights turn right, stay in right hand lane, at roundabout take second exit, stay in right hand lane. At traffic lights turn right, at next traffic lights go straight over and stay in right hand lane. Stay in the right hand lane and go straight through the next 3 sets of traffic lights. At the roundabout take the first exit, at the next roundabout take the first exit and follow the road for half a mile. When you reach a small roundabout the hotel is on our right hand side with a pick up and drop off point at the main reception doors.

From Kings Lyn (A47) - Leave A47 at A11 Junction. Take the first exit towards city centre, follow A11,at roundabout take second exit. Continue along the A11 at roundabout take second exit and at the next roundabout take the first exit. Take the second exit at the next 3 roundabouts. On fly over move into right hand land. At roundabout take the third exit, follow road for half a mile. When you reach a small roundabout the hotel is on your right hand aide with a pick up and drop off point at the main reception doors.
