The natural beauty of this part of Wales is perhaps the most compelling reason to come here. Set picturesquely overlooking two sandy beaches, the resort village of Aberporth is one of West Wales' most favoured holiday locations. The cliff-top walks along the Ceredigion Heritage Coast in the Aberporth area offer an exhilarating experience. The Penrallt Hotel is an ideal base from which to explore southern Ceredigion and northern Pembrokeshire. The Pembrokeshire Coast national Park begins just south of the river Teifi, with the Ceredigion Heritage Coast to the north and, inland, the lush green pastures of the Teifi valley - home of the Welsh Woollen mills.
Pembrokeshire is Britain's only coastal National Park. It has islands, beaches, lakes and woodlands. Its a good place to spot dolphins, fish, seals, the odd whale, and hundreds of thousands of birds. Rare choughs, puffins, moorhens, woodpeckers, herons and gannets are a common sight. In fact, you're likely to see more animals than people! The perfect escape, Pembrokshire has more award winning beaches than skyscrapers, more national park than suburban sprawl, more breathtaking views than taxi queues and more people wandering the 186 miles of coastal trail than hurrying for the train home.
Ceredigion is a land steeped in history and tradition, renowned for its Welshness. Much of Ceredigion's 50 mile coast is designated Heritage Coast. Inland lie the uplands of Plynlimon, the forests of the Cambrian Mountains and the verdant vales of the Teifi, Rheidol, Aeron and Ystwyth rivers features some truly beautiful landscapes.
A 30 minute drive away is the Devils Bridge, internationally famous for its waterfalls and Narrow Gauge Steam Railway. Devils Bridge is situated at the head of the Rheidol Valley amidst the Plynlimon hill range. Two rushing streams - the Mynach and Rheidol descend dramatically into a gorge below the village. Legend says it was built by the Devil in return for the soul of the first to cross it. Apparently the townspeople tricked him by sending a dog over which may explain why they've had to rebuild it three times! Over time three different bridges have been built, one on top of the other. Visitors can enjoy several footpaths and walks to view the bridges and waterfalls.
