Book luxury hotels in the Lake District to visit 'special forest'
Those planning to get away from it all at luxury hotels in the Lake District have been offered tips on the best places to spend their time in the National Park.
Writing in the Guardian, Peter Needham said that Grizedale Forest - which is located near Hawkshead - is a "special place with secrets galore".
He explained that it offers beautifully varied walks, meaning it could be the perfect place to while away an afternoon during a stay in the Lake District.
Mr Needham particularly highlighted the 100 sculptures dotted around the forest, which include pieces showing an elephant and a spindly woman holding a waterfall.
"There are ancient tracks and waymarked modern paths snaking through mixed woodland. You will see woodpeckers and treecreepers and all the flora you would expect," he commented.
Hawkshead is also home to numerous cafes and boutique shops, such as Haddows, which is an official stockist of Beatrix Potter collectables, books and gifts.
