Flexibility is the key to success with UK-based holidays
Britain is becoming more popular as a holiday destination because of its sheer flexibility, according to an expert.
Peter Hampson, chief executive at British Destinations, said that the domestic market has been investing for years, however, it was only since the trend of the staycation that people who normally went abroad are now looking within these shores.
It means that activities like guided walking holidays in the Cotswolds could now be the preserve of holiday-hungry Brits, rather than spending two weeks on a beach in Tenerife.
The fact that people do not have to travel far to get to their destination will play a part in their decision making process, while those who have experienced a staycation are likely to have passed on positive reviews to friends and family.
"There is so much to do [in the UK]. The country is relatively small, but it is packed with a huge variety of physical geography [and] different kinds of scenery, all within relatively short travelling distance.
"So there is literally something for everybody and that is generally what people have been finding as they have been reintroduced into the market," added Mr Hampson.
Taking the Cotswolds as an example, holidaymakers can choose from a whole host of activities during their stay. This could include getting active and tackling the Cotswold Way, which features over 100 miles of English countryside to explore.
It runs between the market town of Chipping Campden and Bath, passing through a number of picturesque villages, and by historic sites like the Neolithic burial chamber at Belas Knap.
The Cotswold Water Park could also provide another energetic activity, with adventurous holidaymakers able to take part in windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, orienteering and raft building among others.
Mr Hampson summed up the British holiday perfectly: "You can do what you want, when you want. It is infinitely flexible."
