Junior rangers to make a difference at hotels in Ambleside
A junior rangers' programme is now underway in the Lake District, which could help preserve the landscape for future generations staying at hotels in Ambleside.
The initiative is aimed at improving the skills, knowledge and passion for the Lake District and its very special landscape.
"This new role involves giving the youngsters opportunities every month to learn and to take responsibility for their actions in a safe and supportive environment in a variety of tasks," commented national park learning coordinator Anne Blackburn.
Ruth Kirk, an outdoor and environmental education graduate from Shap, is the first junior ranger to be appointed and will be planning a schedule of activities for those staying at country house hotels in the Lake District.
Meanwhile, guests of hotels in Kendal are being invited to see a series of new paintings that are being displayed in the head office of the Lake District National Park Authority.
