Lake District gears up for Lakes Alive events

Luxury hotels in the Lake District are likely to prove popular over the next few weeks, as the Lakes Alive season is about to start.

A series of free events, including performances of music, comedy, drama and cabaret are set to be staged in some of the region's most beautiful and notable locations, such as Maryport Harbour and Carlisle Castle.

Julie Tait, director of Kendal Arts International, believes the landscapes and heritage sites of Cumbria should provide a "stunning" setting for the outdoors art events.

"If you think street art is about little more than juggling and jokes, you're in for some big surprises in Cumbria this summer," she commented.

More than 150 outdoor artists are set to take part in Lakes Alive, which commences on Friday July 23rd and runs until Sunday August 1st.

This comes after the Lake District put itself forward as a candidate to become a Unesco World Heritage Site.
