Make the most of Fairtrade at Lake District hotels
Those staying at luxury hotels in the Lake District will find there are plenty of Fairtrade items to choose from in the region, as it has just been granted special status.
The Fairtrade Zone, as it is now known, aims to offer a good deal for producers in both the local area and overseas while stocking their goods.
Policy advisor Neil Solender commented: "Fairtrade products do not compete against our own locally-sourced products but rather sit alongside.
"Buying local products from the national park and Cumbria remains of key importance."
The Lake District is the first national park to have been granted this status, which also means it will be investing in better wages for workers, as well as having a stake in social programmes.
This follows the news that a 68-page guide has been made available in the Lakes to inform visitors of what is going on over the next few months, as it celebrates 60 years of being a national park.
