Maryport Blues Festival scheduled for July

Wherever people decide to visit for a one night spa break this summer, they will want to have a range of activities to look forward to.

This is why the Lake District could prove to be particularly appealing for travellers, who will find that the region has an abundance of events and things to do during the summer months.

The area is also certain to look especially endearing in the summer sun, as it is home to some of the UK's best spots of natural beauty, including numerous streams and hills, providing many enviable photo opportunities for tourists.

However, one event in particular that could be the difference maker for people who are still uncertain of where they want to visit this summer is the Maryport Blues Festival, which will take place for three days from July 27th.

The event will see the small town of Maryport host some of the UK's leading blues artists, including Cliff Bennett, whose former band Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers were the first London band to be signed by The Beatles' manager Brian Epstein.

With their own unique brass sound, the group introduced many British youngsters to the art of soul music.

Additionally, Chris Farlowe will perform at the festival, bringing 50 years of tracks and experience with him to the stage.

Farlowe's first release dates back to November 1962 and has produced a stunning back catalogue of material since.

Due to his vast experience, he has accrued the respect of many of his peers, a fact that was highlighted in 2003 when Welsh rockers The Stereophonics covered his hit single "Handbags and Gladrags".

As well as hosting some of the UK's most venerated blues talents, the event will also showcase local acts, including AWOL.

The group are based in Maryport and perform classic rock with blues influences and have become a keen favourite of the festival's attendees, after racking up consecutive appearances at the event for the last six years.
