More Brits 'choosing to stay in England'
More Brits are opting for a staycation and choosing to holiday in places such as Lake District hotels, it has been suggested.
According to James Berresford, the chief executive of VisitEngland, staying in the UK has become a popular vacation choice for many people.
He said that England's domestic tourism product fared very well last year as a result of the economic crisis making people choose to save their pennies and opt against a trip abroad.
However, Mr Berresford added that holidaying in England has grown in popularity for reasons beyond its cost-effectiveness.
"We've got so much happening in this country that it really is time that we persuade people not only to come to this country, but to stay in this country," he stated.
His comments come after VisitEngland revealed that between June and August 2010, 87 per cent of accommodation providers, such as hotels in the Lake District, reported satisfaction with visitor levels.
Findings also showed that compared with the same period in 2009, 76 per cent noted that business had either increased or stayed the same.
