More guests in East Anglia hotels visiting Norfolk Broads
More and more people staying in hotels in East Anglia are choosing to visit the Norfolk Broads, officials have confirmed.
According to the Broads Authority, the number of visitors to the area rose by five per cent in 2009, while the amount of money they spent went up by two per cent.
Bruce Hanson, head of tourism at the body, said visitor numbers during the year to date are already up on those recorded 12 months earlier.
"Most businesses are happy despite the economic climate and it is brilliant news that we are still up on last year," he told the Eastern Daily Press.
He added that since the Broads Tourism Forum was established, the tourism industry in Norfolk "really seems to be pulling together".
This comes after Ian Russell, chairman of the Broads Tourism Forum, said the region should be promoted as a "destination for all seasons" in a way that is contemporary, relevant and plays to its strengths.
