New Windermere visitor centre in the pipeline
Those heading to luxury hotels in the Lake District will soon be given the opportunity to utilise a brand new visitors' centre near Lake Windermere.
The centre is in line for a complete overhaul in order to improve its image and attract more tourists, the BBC reveals.
More than £800,000 has been allocated to the project, which will take place at Brockhole on Windermere in the New Year.
Among the improvements will be a larger jetty, which will be able to accommodate larger steamers visiting the region.
Earlier this month, the Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) revealed that it was shifting the commercial focus of its visitors centre in order to keep them in business over the coming years.
"It's been a really difficult 12 months for us with the unpredictable weather, a downturn in the national economy, and reduced spending power from our own visitors," confirmed LDNPA head of information services Steve Wray.
