Olympics could boost Lake District hotels
The 2012 Olympic Games could bring a much needed boost to Lake District hotels and other businesses operating in the area.
This is according to the national park's chief executive Richard Leafe, who explained that 2012 will be a tough year for many organisations.
He commented: "The Olympics is obviously going to be the big event of 2012 and I think there's a great opening for us all to ensure that the national park gets it share of attention."
Mr Leafe highlighted that when the Olympic torch passes through the Lake District on June 21st, media attention will be placed on the area, which may encourage bookings at hotels in Windermere.
More people will hopefully decide to holiday at home and see exactly what the adventure capital of the UK has to offer, the expert added.
It was recently announced that Mintfest would continue in the Lakes next year, thanks to a new round of funding.
