Stargazing event to take place in the Cotswolds

An event is being held in the Cotswolds tomorrow night (January 31st) which will give amateur astronomers the chance to explore the night sky.

As part of the BBC's Stargazing Live series, a host of events are taking place around the UK, encouraging people to get out and learn more about the world around them.

Holidaymakers thinking about walking in the region can gather in the paddock at The Red Lion, Little Compton, and they will be able to see close ups of the cratered surface of the moon and also take a close look at Jupiter.

By the end of the evening, stargazers will have learned how to indentify visible constellations, picking out familiar sights such as the plough.

Stargazing Live is hosted by Dara O'Briain and Professor Brian Cox. Last year, the show encouraged more than 300 partner-led activities around the UK.

The Cotswolds event is being run by the Chipping Norton Amateur Astronomy Group and runs between 19:00GMT and 22:30GMT.
