Surroundings protected for guests of hotels in Windermere
The area surrounding hotels in Windermere is soon to be better protected as a result of new conservation boundaries being extended.
Bowness is also to benefit from the plans, which have recently been approved by members of the national park authority.
Lake District National Park Authority conservation and design adviser David James said: "The designation of a conservation area is a means to safeguard and enhance the sense of place, character and appearance of our most valued historic assets and places."
He stressed, however, that this will not prevent change of new development, but will ensure that any future plans are carefully managed to remain in-keeping with the surroundings.
Among the areas covered by the strategy are the prevention of loss and damage to trees, promoting the use of traditional skills and building materials and encouraging the understanding of the area's history.
Attention will also be paid to historic buildings to ensure they remain protected.
