Windermere boaters subject to registration changes
Frequent visitors to luxury hotels in Lake Windermere may need to make themselves aware of new regulations affecting the use of powered boats in the region.
A number of changes have been made to the registration procedure that visitors will need to comply with to avoid facing a hefty fine.
Owners of boats on the Small Ships Register will now be expected to pay a registration fee, while information on the master of the vessel needs to be given to national park authorities or the police.
Furthermore, nobody under the age of 16 staying at country house hotels in the Lake District will be able to make an application for the use of a powered vessel.
Head of park management Mark Eccles explained: "The implementation of the revised registration byelaws helps promote safe and enjoyable recreational activity on Windermere.
"Effective byelaws help reinforce the environmental qualities of the lake and secure a clear management regime."
