Known as the ‘Ship of the Fens’ (the medieval Church used to consider itself a vessel in which the faithful could journey to God), Ely Cathedral has been a site of worship for nearly 1,400 years. Today, visitors to Ely Cathedral can admire its Norman nave with its distinctive round arches, the fine Norman stonework of the the north and south transepts, the contemporary Gothic-style Octagon, and what is by far the largest chapel attached to any British cathedral.
