Managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust, Handa Island is an internationally important nature reserve where 100,000 seabirds gather to breed in the summer, one of the largest seabird breeding colonies in North West Europe. During the breeding season, guillemot, razorbill, great skua and 250 pairs of puffin can be found nesting on the dramatic sea cliffs that rise vertically from the Atlantic on the north-west coast of the island. Dolphin, minke whale and basking sharks can be spotted in the surrounding waters. Handa is accessible by boat from Tarbet.
