Originally an Anglo-Saxon timber fortification, then a Norman castle demolished by Edward I; captured by the Parliamentarians during the Civil War, then surrendered to the Crown in 1660, Shrewsbury Castle has had a colourful past. Eventually restored to its Edwardian condition and opened to the public by the Corporation of Shrewsbury, today it houses the collections of the Shropshire Regimental Museum Trust.
