Country House Retreat
A Country House hotel is typically the converted mansion of a wealthy landowner, country gentleman, or industrialist, with ample grounds and gardens, in a rural or suburban setting. Set in attractive gardens, with picturesque views of the River Great Ouse and a country park, the Barns Hotel was once home to the Whitbread brewing family. Another Country House hotel with a claim to fame, Lindeth Howe, was a source of inspiration to its former owner, the beloved children’s author Beatrix Potter. All of our Country House hotels – whether a Grade II listed Victorian Gothic mansion, or a black and white timber framed Jacobean manor – have a distinct country house ambience.
