Equidistant between York and Harrogate, the Howardian Hills and Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Here is a manor made for Sundays. Mondays, too. Fancy another lazy day on the Estate?

You stir, it’s late. Well, it’s a Sunday after all. The very day of rest in God’s Own Country. You inch back the curtain, smile as you glimpse the Walsingham walled garden and beyond. Yes, three days here is enough to forget the haste and hurry, the scuttle and scurry of the capital.

A full English followed by a deliciously drawn-out two-and-a-half-mile circular walk around the Estate. And then on, to 18 holes in the wide open Yorkshire countryside, with the sinuous Ure disappearing into mellow woodland which rises into soft pastel skies.

During a late-afternoon dip in the pool, you hear of plans to create a destination spa, ESPA menu and all. What isn’t already a destination here? Perhaps you’ll stay on for a moonlit dinner in Elements? The menu certainly caught your eye, as did its golden tree and wall art.

Originally a wedding present commissioned for Lord Walsingham in 1865 for his daughter, Aldwark Manor Estate is 185 acres of authentic Yorkshire hospitality. Well slept. Well played. Well fed. Well, well, another night here…

Food & Drink

Elements Restaurant

As you would expect from a restaurant christened Elements, nature is on (and off) the brasserie-style menu. Produce is mindfully sourced from the UK's most dedicated farmers. 'Local' is practiced rather than preached - whether it's grown in the hotel's own kitchen garden or in the wider Yorkshire area.

In the milder months, there's a fully retractable roof allowing for al fresco dining. That said, the restaurant's indoor golden tree and living wall bring the outdoors in whatever the weather. Abundant fern-green upholstered seating completes a palette of muted earth tones, accented by intriguing wall art.

The Squadron Bar

A replica of the bar in The Greatest Showman, here is unabashed glamour and glitz, as showmanship should be. The bar with terrace and fire pits, overlooking the 15th hole down to the River Ure, is open until late.

There's a simple bar menu and a cocktail one, too, featuring the amusingly named 'Aldwark's Hendricks Mar Tea Ni' - a curious combination of Hendricks Gin, Elderflower liquor, Earl Grey syrup and lemon served in a tea cup with edible flowers.

Golf Courses

Aldwark Manor Golf Club

6,187 yards, Par 72 layout next to the River Ure

Aldwark Manor Golf Club provides an easy walking, par-72 layout, set in 120 acres of beautiful Vale of York parkland. Avenues of oaks and beeches provide formidable obstacles, as does the River Ure.

Please note: the golf course is currently being modified. During this time only 9 holes are available to play, but 18 holes can be played as two rounds of the 9-hole course.
