Wile away a long afternoon by the River Cuckmere. Wander through the medieval village of Alfriston. Follow the South Downs Way. Step back. Slow down. Enjoy.

Deans Place Hotel is set on the banks of the River Cuckmere, at the foot of the South Downs National Park and within easy reach of the dramatic white cliffs of the South Coast. This 14th Century country house was once part of an extensive farming estate; today it offers luxurious hotel accommodation and award-winning fine dining in the heart of East Sussex.

Many bedrooms enjoy magnificent views over the pretty four-acre Victorian gardens, with a gazebo and a riverside bridge, and the sweeping South Downs. There is an outdoor pool and guests can play croquet and boules in the hotel grounds.

The Dining Room has been awarded Two AA Rosettes for the exceptional quality of its cuisine and is one of the finest restaurants in the area. Here guests can relish modern British cuisine whilst taking in views of the Cuckmere Valley. In the winter, savour a traditional afternoon tea by the bar’s crackling log fire, and dine on the large terrace in the summer.

Nestling in the medieval village of Alfriston, the world-famous Glyndebourne Opera House is at its doorstep. The vibrant seaside resorts of Brighton and Eastbourne and the bustling market town of Lewes are just a short drive away.
