This foodie and wine destination manages to tread the tightrope between the fine food and excellent service you would expect from a multi-award-winning restaurant without being overly fussy or formal. Thank head chef Kelvin Johnson. Guests can savour modern British cuisine in stylish surrounds, with a stunning dark wood balustrade gallery and conservatory adorned by artworks and fresh flowers. The menu reflects the changing seasons and locally sourced produce. If you like your dishes pan fried, start with scallops served with vegetable, tomato and adzuki bean casoulet, white pudding, and pancetta crisp. Follow this up with a little Indian inspiration by choosing the seared monkfish tail accompanied by saag aloo, cauliflower beignet, courgette flower and lemon foam. For dessert, the rocky road baked cheesecake with hazelnut ice cream goes down a treat. Needless to say, the wine list is exceptional.
Please reserve a table for dinner in advance.
Food at the WinePress Restaurant is complemented by Donnington Valley's award-winning wine list of over 400 wines, 40 of which are available by the glass. Wines range from the more obscure, such as wines from India, to the classics of Bordeaux. Wines from the owner's winery in California are also featured. The list has been innovatively grouped into easy to understand sections, such as 'crisp and dry' and 'fragrant' for the whites, and 'light and fruity' and 'big and bold' for the reds. The idea is to help customers select their ideal choice of wine, experimenting with and enjoying lesser known wines along the way. If in any doubt, there is an expert sommelier on hand to help.
The Bar is a relaxed and inviting area for an early morning coffee, a lazy Sunday lunch or a late night cocktail. The bar menu champions the best of British cooking, serving up soup and mushrooms on toast for a starter, fish and chips or braised pork belly for a main, and, to finish, sticky toffee pudding. There are also platters and puddings for you to share. Think unpretentious, flavoursome cooking.
In the summer, dining at Donnington Valley Hotel reveals an altogether different flavour. Take a seat in the fresh open air – sunny or shade – and dine al fresco. The Bacchus bar leads out to a terrace area, which offers an oasis of calm to spend a long summer evening after exploring the local area.
Don’t miss the opportunity to indulge in afternoon tea whilst staying in this glorious setting – savour homemade scones with fruit preserve and cream, sandwiches, cakes and a pot of tea. Both traditional afternoon tea and champagne afternoon tea are available to order and can be enjoyed in the Bacchus bar, poolside or even in bed. Afternoon tea can be booked in advance, at a special price, when booking your room via classicbritishhotels.com.

Set in the beautiful Berkshire countryside, Donnington Valley’s golf course and clubhouse are truly unique. The closing four holes of this 18-hole, par 71 course are regarded as one of the toughest finishes in the country, with water featuring prominently on the 15th, 16th and 17th holes. The clubhouse, Snelsmore House, is a Grade II listed Victorian building that commands magnificent views over the 9th and 18th double green. There is also an indoor practice facility that offers hitting bays and custom fitting.

Britain’s greatest palace, birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and a World Heritage Site… Set in 2,100 acres of stunning ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped parkland and award-winning formal gardens, Blenheim Palace was a gift from Queen Anne and a grateful nation to the 1st Duke of Marlborough, following his famous victory at the Battle of Blenheim in 1704. This masterpiece of English Baroque architecture was designed by Sir John Vanbrugh, featuring magnificent Nicholas Hawksmoor ceilings and the intricate stone work of Grinling Gibbons. It is only fitting then that in 1874, Britain’s greatest palace was the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, our ‘Greatest Briton’.
Today, you can take a guided tour of the gilded state rooms, which house one of the finest collections in Europe, including family portraits, sculptures, Boulle furniture and the famous ‘Victory Tapestries’, charting the military campaigns of the 1st Duke of Marlborough; marvel at the grandeur of the Long Library, running 55 metres in length and considered to be Nicholas Hawksmoor’s finest room, with stucco decoration in the false domes by Isaac Mansfield and a spectacular 1891 Willis organ; and admire the remarkable murals painted in the style of trompe-l’œil by Louis Laguerre in the central saloon, also known as the state dining room, and now used by the 11th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough once a year on Christmas Day.
Both a monument and a mausoleum, Blenheim offers an unforgettable glimpse of British history.
