Waterton Park Hotel in Wakefield is a truly unique hotel, situated only four miles from the M1 Junction 39, and only six miles from the M62 Junction 31. This 4-star Wakefield hotel has a stunning setting on a country estate that was established as the world's first nature reserve. Walton Hall is the focal point of Waterton Park Hotel - a beautiful Georgian mansion house on an island surrounded by a 26 acre lake accessible only by a picturesque iron footbridge. Together they offer luxury bedrooms, restaurants, bars, conference rooms and leisure facilities.

Most of the bedrooms offer views over the lake or surrounding golf course and all have Wi-Fi internet access. The hotel features a leisure club with indoor pool built at lake level. Swimmers can look out onto the lake and surrounding countryside. There is Fly-fishing from the hotels own private lake stocked with rainbow and brown trout.

Modern English cuisine is served in the award winning Bridgewater Restaurant with views of the lake. Charlie's Bar has a more informal atmosphere with its brasserie style menu. The Terrace overlooks the lake with seating outside, perfect for 'al fresco' dining and enjoying the fantastic island location.

The estate has been further enhanced with a Championship 18 hole Golf Course which surrounds the hotel and lake. Ample free car parking.

Bedroom Accommodation

Waterton Park Hotel has 65 en suite bedrooms, most of which have views of the lake or the 18-hole championship golf course that surrounds the hotel. Bedroom accommodation is located in both the hotel on the mainland and in Walton Hall, an impressive Georgian mansion house situated on an island in a 26-acre lake, linked to the mainland by an iron bridge. All bedrooms are non-smoking.

Hotel Heritage & History

Walton Hall was once the home of Charles Waterton - an eccentric 19th century traveller and naturalist, who scoured the globe for rare species. On his return, Charles Waterton transformed the estate into the world's first nature reserve.

Walton Hall is a beautiful Georgian mansion house on an island surrounded by a 26 acre lake accessible only by a picturesque iron footbridge.

Today, Waterton Park Hotel comprises the original Georgian mansion house and a purpose-built hotel on the mainland. Bedrooms are located in both Walton Hall on the island and on the mainland.

How to find us

By Road

From the M1:
Exit the M1 at junction 39 - Denby Dale Road (A636) towards Wakefield. At the next roundabout go straight on (second exit) and pass the 'Red Kite' pub on your left. At the next roundabout take the third exit towards Crofton & Sandal onto Asdale Road, A6186.
Drive past the Asda supermarket, on your left, and continue across two mini roundabouts and straight on across the traffic lights. At the next set of lights turn right, passing the 'Three Houses' pub, onto Chevet Lane - B6132. Turn left onto Walton Station Lane and follow the country lane to the T-Juntion at the end. Turn right onto Greenside then take the first left onto Shay Lane. Just before the mini roundabout turn right onto the Balk.
As the road veers to the right, drive straight onto the private hotel drive. Follow the drive past the Golf course clubhouse on the left and over a small hump-backed bridge.

From the M62:
Exit the M62 at Junction 31 and take the A655 towards Wakefield. This will take you along the new bypass - follow the Wakefield signs for approximately 5 miles. At the traffic lights turn left onto the A638 and then take an immediate right, following the signs for Walton. Follow the road into the village of Walton and take the third left onto Shay Lane. Take the second right onto The Balk and continue down to the end, taking a left fork onto the private hotel drive. Follow the drive past the Golf course clubhouse on the left and over a small hump-backed bridge.
