Greater lake access to be provided at Lake District hotels
Anyone with mobility issues staying at Lake District hotels will now be able to enjoy Coniston Water, thanks to a new dedicated boat.
The electric boat comes with its own moveable ramp to make it accessible to wheelchair users, which will no doubt prove a hit with those staying at hotels in Lake Windermere.
Funding for the boat was provided by the Lake District National Park and the Environment Agency and is capable of taking between four to six wheelchair anglers for up to four hours.
It is believed that there will be high demand for the boat, which was purchased for £15,000 and can travel up to six miles per hour.
Environment Agency fisheries officer Mike Farrell said: "This is a fantastic resource and I hope we can use it, and future additional boats, on lakes all over Cumbria and further afield even throughout the whole of the north-west."
