Lake District to welcome new conservation area
People visiting luxury hotels in the Lake District may soon find there is a new conservation area for them to explore.
At present, residents of Windermere are being asked for their views on which part of the town should follow in the footsteps of other parts of the area by being earmarked for conservation.
Consultation letters have already been sent out to local businesses and residents, giving them the chance to state whether or not they are in support of the proposals.
"Windermere is unique in the Lake District as a settlement which developed because of the arrival of the railway during the Victorian era," commented National Park conservation and design manager David James.
He added that the area has some real historic interest due to its impressive architecture and the "quality of craftsmanship" seen in its buildings.
This follows the news that visitor centres in the Lake District are to be given new responsibilities in a bid to improve their commercial operations.
