Magazine award could boost Lake District hotels
Lake District hotels may see a boost in popularity after readers of one publication named the area the best national park in the country.
Readers of Countryfile magazine were asked to submit their nominations, with the Lake District coming out in first place, followed by the Peak District in second.
"It's a great present for our 60th birthday year! In 1951, our forefathers felt a Lake District National Park would keep the place beautiful and accessible," commented director of park services Bob Cartwright.
He highlighted that there is so much for guests of hotels near the World of Beatrix Potter to do all year round, which is why the destination remains such a firm favourite.
Editor of Countryfile magazine Fergus Collins suggested that it is hardly surprising the Lake District took poll position due to its "crystal waters and inspiring fells".
He also suggested that the area is an "iconic British landscape" that attracts people from all over the world.
