Santa trains prove a hit with guests of hotels in the Cotswolds
Many people staying at hotels in the Cotswolds over the festive period are likely to have made bookings on the Severn Valley Railway (SVR), which is running a host of Santa Specials.
The first of the trains runs this weekend (December 3rd and 4th) and is expected to be even more popular than in previous years.
By the close of business on Friday, in excess of 25,000 seats on the Santa trains had been sold, with around two-thirds of the trains already reaching capacity.
Services manager for the SVR David Mee commented: "It's clear that as hard-pressed as many families are in these recessionary times, the traditional steam train ride on the Severn Valley to see Santa is not something they are willing to sacrifice."
He revealed that 1,800 more seats had been sold compared to the same period of last year, with the two Christmas carol services already being booked up for weeks.
