Understanding of UK holidays has 'grown immeasurably'

The understanding of British holidays has grown significantly since the economic downturn, one tourism expert has noted.

This year will see a number of fantastic events taking place in the country, including the Diamond Jubilee, the Olympics and a "fantastic array" of other attractions, a representative from British Destinations has stated.

Such excellent happenings are sure to generate a tremendous atmosphere across Britain, so this year could be the ideal time to choose from a number of Lake District walking holidays.

The area is home to breathtaking scenery and a selection of irresistible attractions that could provide the perfect escape from people's daily routines.

Also, those who are more familiar with holidaying abroad could find that now is a great time to stay at home, with Peter Hampson, chief executive at British Destinations, explaining that England has much to offer.

"People tend to think it is a competition between domestic and overseas and there is a place for both.

"The understanding of UK holidays has grown immeasurably since the recession and I see no reason why people won't continue to holiday in the UK."

Mr Hampson conceded that people will not be able to find a tropical summer holiday in the UK, but they can enjoy a family holiday by the beach or opt to explore the country's captivating mountains.

The Lake District contains some of Britain's greatest scenery, with the Wasdale mountains being one sight that visitors to the region cannot afford to miss.

Wasdale Valley is far removed from the UK's commercialised towns and cities, as it only has one road in and out of the area.

It also contains Wastwater, which is England's deepest lake at 74 metres.

A visit to Wasdale Valley is sure to be an eye-opener for tourists, who can savour its truly unique and beautiful landscape.
