This popular group of hills spreads across parts of Powys, amongst other regions, and is the easternmost of the four ranges of hills that comprise the Brecon Beacons National Park. The Offa’s Dyke National Trail – built by Offa, King of Mercia between 757 and 796 AD – the Brecons Way and the Marches Way all pass through the Black Mountains. Needless to say, the area is popular with hillwalkers, mountainbikers and horseriders. The Black Mountains are not to be confused with the Black Mountain, a peak within the Black Mountains.
