Once a hub of industry, today Blaenavon’s museums allow visitors to follow the fascinating story of South Wales’ rise to prominence in the Industrial Revolution. Landmarks from the Revolution are dotted around Blaenavon, evidence of the once great industries of coal mining and iron production. The principal visitor attractions are the award-winning Big Pit National Coal Museum with its famous underground tour and the astonishingly well-preserved Blaenavon Ironworks at the head of the Afon Lwyd river. You can also explore the restored town centre.
