Royalty has walked these historic corridors, admired those very same equine masterpieces...
It’s not everyday that you get to stay at an exclusive members club, at the beating heart of the “sport of kings”. Indeed, Newmarket’s high street is an unlikely setting for this rarefied Georgian gem, but it stands, as it has stood, here nonetheless, since the early 1750s, when the Club founders met in the “Coffee Room” to place bets.
Everywhere you turn offers a fascinating insight in to the sport. Portraits of iconic horses by equine masters, including George Stubbs and Alfred Munnings. You may not be a horse-racing fan, but this, this is history animate, tradition, unflappable, in an age of quantum computing and AI. It’s hard not to come away charmed by this captivating time capsule of a club.
Not all horses are created equal. This one raises the bar. And clears it. You could call it a classic British institution.
