Wivenhoe House Hotel -1
Wivenhoe House Hotel is a luxury four-star hotel just minutes from Britain’s oldest recorded town, Colchester. Enjoying a glorious parkland setting, from the outside the unmistakable Grade II listed, red brick façade reflects the elegant period interiors of the main house. Beautifully decorated lounges overlook the carefully restored sunken lawn. A contemporary brasserie serves up innovative daily specials and a mouthwatering roast dinner using the best of British produce.
The main house is home to 16 sumptuous suites, including the Constable suite, named after the famous East Anglian artist whose landscape painting of Wivenhoe House is on display at the National Gallery of Washington. The Boudicca suite takes its name from Essex’s famous warrior who led a major uprising against occupying Roman forces and in the process destroyed the capital of Roman Britain, then at Colchester. The modern garden wing provides 24 contemporary bedrooms all with iMac computers.
A part of the University of Essex, Wivenhoe House Hotel is proud to be the home of the pioneering Edge Hotel School, where dedicated undergraduates work towards a degree in hotel management, ensuring that every guest is well looked after. The University’s Art Exchange Gallery is just a few metres away and a 5-minute walk will take you to the Lakeside Theatre.
